Speaking in front of the ABM students of Mindanao State University – General Santos City (MSU-GSC) was both an overwhelming and humbling experience. Standing before young minds eager to learn reminded me why sharing real-world experiences matters—especially in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

It was truly an honor to share my journey in vanilla farming and processing—from the early challenges to the lessons learned along the way. Vanilla is often seen as a niche crop, but behind it is a story of patience, innovation, and perseverance. Being able to discuss this process with students who are preparing for
careers in business and management made the experience even more meaningful.
What made the session special was the students’ curiosity and thoughtful questions. Their interest reaffirmed that the future of agribusiness lies in combining traditional farming practices with modern business thinking. Conversations like these help bridge the gap between the farm and the market, and hopefully inspire students to see agriculture as a viable and rewarding path.

My sincere thanks to Sir Marlo Artemio Jr. for the opportunity to speak and for believing in the value of sharing practical industry experiences with students. Platforms like this play a vital role in shaping future entrepreneurs and leaders.
I leave the session grateful, inspired, and hopeful that some of these students will one day contribute to strengthening our local agricultural industries—perhaps even exploring crops like vanilla themselves. // MELVIN R. AWID
